For allegedly raping a
19-year-old hawker, a 25-year-old unemployed man had found himself in
serious trouble, reports Daily Trust.
Apart from raping the lady, the young is also said to have stolen her money and handset.
The
report has it that the suspect met with the victim, a ‘fura and nono’
(local cow milk and millet meal delicacy), vendor, at the back of a
filling station along the Abuja-Zuba expressway, where he had gone in
search of a job.
It was gathered that the suspect
forcefull had carnal knowledge of the lady but when she screamed, he
quickly took to his heels before people around could come to her rescue.
The
suspect reportedly gave the stole phone to one of his friends and it
was when the parents of the victim called the phone that it was traced
to the culprit.
“His friend was making use of
the phone when the victim’s parents called. Apparently they had been
trying to call the number for the past five days since the phone was
snatched from her,” a police source said.
The
man, ignorant of what transpired between his friend and the victim,
innocently disclosed his whereabouts, as well as how he got the phone,
which led to his arrest and that of the suspect.
The rapist allegedly confessed he snatched the phone from the victim to sell as a result of hunger, but denied raping her.
The Kubwa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent Nuruddeen Sabo, confirmed the arrest, saying investigation is on after which the suspect would be charged to court.
